Jorden van Foreest is a Dutch Grandmaster celebrated for his daring, inventive style and his consistent drive to play for victory. Recognized for his deep theoretical knowledge, he thrives in complications and is never afraid to make bold decisions on the board.


Hailing from a storied chess lineage, Jorden come from a Dutch Noble family's lineage. He is great-great-grandson of Arnold van Foreest and great-great-grandnephew of Dirk van Foreest, both multiple-time national champions in the late 1800s. Continuing this proud tradition, Jorden claimed the Dutch Championship title in 2016 at just 17. His siblings, Lucas (Dutch Champion in 2019) and Machteld (Women's Champion in 2022) are also accomplished players, marking the family as a true chess dynasty.


Van Foreest’s style is ultra-creative, and he prefers dynamic play. This fearless attitude reached global prominence when he stunned the elite chess world by winning the prestigious Tata Steel Masters in 2021, becoming the first Dutch player since 1985 to lift the title.


Beyond his performances, van Foreest is also a trusted second to some of the world's elite. He has worked closely with Dutch No.1 Anish Giri on opening preparation and even contributed to Magnus Carlsen’s 2021 World Championship team.
