Aadwik Abhinav Krishna is synonymous with discipline, talent and love for the game of chess. This promising young talent invests 10 hours a day in Chess training and this dedication has now brought him national recognition after his 2nd place finish at the recently concluded 38TH NATIONAL UNDER-9 OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.
Aadwik's chess journey began at the age of five. “My sister introduced me to the game,” he recalled. Very soon he was able to defeat his sister regularly which convinced his parents to get him a chess coach.
Aadwik is currently studying at Silicon City Academy of Secondary Education and he benefits from an academic environment that supports his dual life as a student and budding chess player.
“They’re flexible with his schedule,” his father said, acknowledging how crucial this support is for someone who trains for most part of the day.
His current training regimen is intense and structured under the wings of renowned coach Jayaram Ramanna, the founder of Chess Shoots Academy. Apart from his natural ability to understand the game, Aadwik has read several chess books which usually can be found in the library of serious learners, including “Simple Chess,” “The Woodpecker Method,” “How to Attack” by Kotov, "Encyclopedia of Chess Combination", and Dvoretsky’s "Endgame Manual", which he is currently re-reading.
Aadwik has already won multiple district titles (in his background, a shelf decorated with hard-earned trophies was clearly visible) and consistently performs at the state level. More importantly, he’s aware of what needs to improve and he’s ready to work on it, including plans to consider avoiding draw-ish lines when faced with passive opponents in the future.
When asked about his favorite player, Aadwik's direct response was - “Mikhail Tal”.
Tal, known for his dazzling attacks and bold tactical sacrifices, represents the kind of imaginative play Aadwik strives to emulate in his own games. His tournament record already speaks volumes. He secured first place in the district championship and followed it up with a fourth-place finish at the state level. That was enough to qualify for the national stage.
He is now slated to represent India in the World Cadets U-10 section in Italy later this year. However, his immediate tournaments are Karnataka State Under 19 in Shimoga, Khannur State Open in Bangalore and Karnataka State Under 13 in Hassan.
